  • The NIS has handed them over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has intercepted 21 minors suspected to be victims of trafficking at the Geidam border post in Yobe State.

Yobe State Comptroller of Immigration, Sani Sule-Jega, said the children, aged between seven and 15, were travelling without documentation from Magama, Niger State, to the Republic of Niger. The NIS has handed them over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.

“Our core mandate is border security and migration management, and this interception is a testament to our commitment,” Sule-Jega said.

The suspected trafficker, Abubakar Sadiq, claimed he was taking the children to Niger for education at the request of their parents. However, immigration officials found his explanation suspicious.

The driver, Sadiq, and the minors have been transferred to NAPTIP for further investigation.
