Nasarawa Police Arrest Suspects Over Rape of Minors

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of raping minors in the Lafia and Akwanga Local Government Areas.

Commissioner of Police Shetima Mohammed said Yusuf Mamuda was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in Lafia.

“The suspect was trailed and arrested, and he has confessed to the crime,” Mr Mohammed said. “We received a complaint from the victim’s father, Usman Mohammed, and our officers swiftly responded to the situation.”

In a separate incident, Inusa Mohammed was arrested for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl in the Akwanga Local Government Area.

“The victim received medical attention, and the suspect has also confessed to the crime,” Mr Mohammed added.

The police also arrested 39 other suspects for various crimes, including kidnapping, homicide, armed robbery, cultism, and drug peddling.

Mr Mohammed gave a breakdown of the arrests, saying 12 suspects were arrested for kidnapping, eight for homicide, six for armed robbery, 12 for cultism, two for rape, and one for drug peddling.

The commissioner assured that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.

The arrests are part of the police command’s efforts to tackle rising crime rates in the state.
