- Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai criticizes Uba Sani for sycophancy towards President Tinubu, claiming it undermines the party’s original values
- El-Rufai asserts that many politicians prioritize power over real change, urging unity among opposition leaders to address Nigeria’s challenges
Former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai has swiped at his successor, Governor Uba Sani.
El-Rufai, who was blocked from becoming a minister in 2023 by rivals within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has recently become a vocal critic of the party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
At a recent event in Abuja, El-Rufai criticized the ruling party and the current government, stating that many things were not right.
However, in a TVC interview, Governor Uba Sani defended the administration, questioning what critics like El-Rufai had done differently while in power. Sani asserted that no president in Nigeria’s history had upheld democracy as much as Tinubu.
“Most of these politicians who claim to form a coalition were in government less than two years ago. What did they achieve? They were only fighting for power, not real change. No president in Nigeria has practiced democracy like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Sani stated.
El-Rufai, in a post on X titled Kaduna Update, hit back at Sani, accusing him of “embarrassingly and sycophantically rambling” every day.
“I used to wonder why. But after confirming that over N150bn in federal reimbursements, interventions, and grants have been selectively given to Kaduna by Tinubu in the last 18 months, it all makes sense.”
“By all means, defend Asiwaju for the conditional cash transfer. Asiwaju has earned it, and it is coming from you. The people of Kaduna State will judge at the right time and place. Have a nice day. – #ConcernedKadunaCitizen,” El-Rufai wrote.
In another post, El-Rufai cited former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, emphasizing that service delivery can mean the difference between hope and despair in a developing nation.
Sani and El-Rufai reportedly fell out shortly after the former took office.
When questioned about their rift, Sani denied any issues, insisting that their relationship remained cordial.
“I can tell you there’s no problem between me and my predecessor. Our relationship is very cordial, and there’s nothing wrong with it. What matters most is moving our state forward,” Sani said.
