The Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, has expressed dissatisfaction over the abandonment of the Brass modern refinery in Bayelsa State, reaffirming the government’s commitment to its completion.
During a visit to the project site, Lokpobiri criticised the current state of work but assured stakeholders that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is determined to complete critical oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta within the president’s first two years in office.
Speaking at a town hall meeting, he emphasised that his visit was not to witch-hunt the contractor or consultant but to ensure the project’s completion. He urged the host community to maintain peace, noting that stability is essential for attracting investment and development.
“It is unacceptable that such a strategic project has been left in this state for so long,” Lokpobiri said. “The Federal Government remains committed to ensuring that critical oil and gas infrastructure, like the Brass Refinery, is completed to create jobs and drive economic growth in the region.”
He commended the people of Brass for their patience and cooperation, promising that their concerns had been noted and would be addressed.
