  • The House emphasized the need for a reassessment of Nigeria’s security strategy

The House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian police and other security agencies to collaborate with local vigilantes to eliminate bandits and herdsmen hiding in forests across the country.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance by Rep. Billy Osawaru during plenary on Wednesday. Osawaru highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, and vandalism of critical infrastructure.

He cited the Amotekun Corps’ recent deployment of 2,000 personnel to flush out criminals in the South-West and called for similar efforts in neighbouring regions.

“The persistence of insecurity threatens national growth, displaces communities, and disrupts food production, leading to inflation and hunger,” he said.
