Police in Anambra State have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly killing his elder brother during a dispute over foodstuffs.
The suspect, Anthony Kosisochukwu Okafor, was taken into custody by officers from Abagana Police Division and members of the Anambra Vigilante Group on Friday evening. His elder brother, Emmanuel Okafor, 45, was confirmed dead after the altercation.
According to the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect admitted to attacking his brother with a stick during a heated argument.
“Kosisochukwu confessed to engaging the victim in a fight over foodstuffs in the house. He used a stick to pierce his brother’s chest. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” Ikenga said in a statement on Saturday.
The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation and prosecution.
