- The Delta State House of Assembly’s Committee on Health has summoned hospital management for questioning over the missing equipment
The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into the disappearance of a laboratory machine valued at N100 million from the Delta State Specialist Hospital in Asaba.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, denied any involvement, stating that the incident occurred in 2022, before he assumed office in August 2023. “I know nothing about it… How can they accuse me of what I don’t know about?” he told The PUNCH on Monday.
However, hospital sources accused the Commissioner of stalling the investigation. They alleged that key hospital equipment, including a Laparoscopy machine, had also gone missing.
“The hospital belongs to all Deltans, not to Dr Ifeanyi Okowa or Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Transparency and accountability must prevail,” a source said.
