Suspected members of the Greenland cult have attacked military personnel guarding a crude oil pipeline in Okporowo, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The attack, which took place on Monday at around 11 am, left one soldier critically injured. No fatalities were reported.
According to sources, the cultists, led by a wanted gang leader, opened fire on the troops, prompting a fierce exchange. The attackers were eventually forced to flee.
Following the incident, residents began fleeing the area, fearing military reprisals. Security forces have since launched a manhunt for the assailants.
Reacting to the attack, the monarch of Igbu Orlukwor, Prince Ike Ehie, condemned the assault, calling it “an affront to constituted authorities.” He urged the government to track down the perpetrators while advising security forces to act professionally in their response.
Ehie also warned community leaders to safeguard public security, stating that any failure to do so could lead to their removal.
He expressed sympathy for the injured soldier and wished him a swift recovery.
