The Ogun State government has assured residents that HIV/AIDS treatment and support services will continue despite the recent suspension of US funding for public health programmes.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, gave the assurance on Tuesday, following the United States’ decision to suspend USAID funding for 90 days.
Coker said proactive measures had been put in place to prevent disruptions, with both federal and state governments committed to maintaining care.
“To mitigate the impact, HIV test kits will remain available across hospitals and primary healthcare centres, and viral load testing will continue with necessary logistics in place,” she said.
She added that healthcare workers would receive weekly assessments to address challenges and urged them to integrate HIV treatment into general health services during this period.
