Terrorists wreaking havoc Nigeria’s north-west region have struck again in Zamfara State.
At least, 10 people were abducted when the terrorists attack Maru, the headquarters of Maru Local Government Area in the State.
According to reports, the assailants stormed the town around 2:00 a.m on Wednesday and surrounded the area before launching their attack.
A local told Blueprint that the armed men operated for several hours without resistance.
“I want to inform you that bandits attacked our town, Maru, around 2:00 a.m. last night. It was a tragic incident. My in-law, who is the Chief Imam of the Maru Central Mosque, Alhaji Salisu Suleman, was kidnapped along with his two wives and seven children,” he said.
According to him, during the raid, the terrorists went from house to house, looting valuables worth millions of naira and rustling livestock.
He called on the federal and Zamfara state governments to deploy adequate security personnel to protect residents from incessant attacks.
“I am appealing to the authorities to increase the number of security forces in our town to safeguard our lives from these terrorists,” he added.
Reports says residents of Maru blocked the major highway leading to Sokoto on Thursday in protest over the worsening security situation.
