The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, has confirmed that 16 people lost their lives in a fatal accident at the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover, Hotoro area, Kano, on Friday.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, stated that the crash involved a DAF trailer carrying goods and 71 passengers.
He attributed the accident to overspeeding, which led to a loss of control.
A total of 52 passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention.
In response, FRSC Sector Commander CC UM Matazu has dispatched an investigation team to probe the incident.
He also extended condolences to the victims’ families and urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, warning against overloading and reckless driving.
