- Beneficiaries will be required to return an equal number of animals after a specified period to sustain the programme
Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has announced plans to make the state a leading hub for livestock production, unveiling a N5.7 billion goat-rearing initiative aimed at empowering women farmers.
Speaking in Daura on Monday during the distribution of 40,000 goats, Governor Radda said the programme is a step towards transforming Katsina into a powerhouse for livestock farming in northern Nigeria.
“This moment marks not only a significant milestone in our agricultural journey but also a transformative step toward making Katsina State a leading hub for livestock production in the northern region and across our great nation, Nigeria,” he said.
The initiative, managed through the Ministry of Women Affairs and community-level committees, will see 10 women in each of the state’s 361 wards receive four goats—one male and three females. Large-scale farmers will receive 50 goats each.
Beneficiaries will be required to return an equal number of animals after a specified period to sustain the programme.
The Emir of Daura commended the initiative, describing it as a meaningful effort to support women, orphans, and vulnerable children through economic empowerment.
