- Governor Soludo’s visit underscores his administration’s dedication to safeguarding residents
Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, and Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, on Saturday, conducted an inspection tour of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) facility in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area, following allegations of extrajudicial activities by the squad.
The visit came amid concerns over security lapses at the facility, particularly after two suspects arrested for the kidnap and murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a lawmaker representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, escaped from RRS custody.
Briefing the governor, CP Orutugu reaffirmed the Anambra State Police Command’s commitment to re-arresting the fleeing suspects and enhancing operational readiness. He announced plans to restructure the RRS unit and implement systematic suspect interviews to improve transparency and accountability.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, emphasised that the reorganisation of the RRS is part of broader efforts to boost crime prevention and law enforcement in the state.
“The restructuring is aimed at enhancing the unit’s operational effectiveness, strengthening evidence gathering, ensuring successful prosecutions, and bolstering overall security in the state,” Ikenga said.
Governor Soludo’s visit underscores his administration’s dedication to safeguarding residents and promoting professional policing and community engagement.
