An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway detonated, injuring three police officers conducting a routine patrol in the area.

According to intelligence sources, Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, reported that the explosion happened around 3 pm on Tuesday near Garin Kuturu village, Borno state.

The sources revealed that the IED went off when Rapid Response Squad (RRS) officers stepped on it, destroying their patrol vehicle and leaving a crater three feet deep and five feet wide.

Makama stated that a bomb disposal unit (EOD-CBRN) was sent to the location to secure the site and search for additional explosive devices.
