Police confirm death of woman who jumped off Third Mainland Bridge

Marine police recovered her body at the University of Lagos shore-slip-way after she reportedly jumped from the bridge into the water.

  • UNILAG medical team confirmed her death in the presence of police officers from Sabo Division after she was brought ashore.
  • Her remains were transported to I.D.H Infectious Disease Hospital Mortuary, Yaba, Lagos, for proper preservation and further necessary procedures.

An unidentified woman has allegedly leaped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the waters near the University of Lagos waterfront.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State police spokesperson, verified the incident on Friday.

According to Hundeyin, the event took place on Thursday, and a medical team later confirmed that she had passed away.

“On 13/3/2025 at about 1600hrs, at about 1500hrs of the same date, an unidentified lady, whose name is yet unknown, reportedly jumped from Third Mainland Bridge into the water at UNILAG waterfront,” Hundeyin said.

“She was recovered at the University of Lagos shore-slip-way by a team of marine police attached there.

“She was confirmed dead by a team of UNILAG medical doctors in the presence of a police team from Sabo Division.

“The body has been evacuated to I.D.H INFECTIOUS Disease Hospital Mortuary, Yaba, Lagos, for preservation.”
