  • The passenger buses were said to be heading to Aba from Owerri when the tragic incident took place.

At least seven travellers have lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Imo State on Sunday.

The victims were killed after three vehicles collided at Ulakwo, along the Owerri-Aba Road.

The passenger buses were said to be heading to Aba from Owerri when the tragic incident took place.

The Police Public Relations Officer spokesperson for the Imo State Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the accident.

He stated that their men were on the ground to control the flow of traffic.

Okoye said, “Yes, the DPO and his men are already on the ground to ensure order, that corpses are removed and the free flow of traffic. We are on top of the situation.”

It was gathered the incident may have been caused the rains, which started just a little after 5 pm in the state capital, and led to a rush among road users to beat the traffic associated with downpours.

An eyewitness, who spoke in confidence with newsmen, disclosed that the accident might have been a result of poor visibility during the rains and impatience on the part of the drivers.

He said though the road was wide, it had become slippery due to the rains, adding that the vehicles rammed into each other and left seven persons dead in a pool of their blood
