  • Truck reportedly rolled onto the expressway after handbrake failed, crashing into two other vehicles and causing fatalities.
  • Victims were taken to Ifo General Hospital, where the dead were deposited and the injured are receiving treatment.

Two persons have died while nine others sustained varying degrees of injury in a crash involving three vehicles at Tipper Garage on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The accident occurred at about 7:40 p.m. on Monday.

It involved a DAF truck with registration number JJJ 144 XD, a Mazda bus marked EPE 394 XP, and a tricycle with number plate DGB 599 VC.

The South-West Area Commander of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Adekunle Ajibade, confirmed the incident to the NAN on Tuesday.

He said the truck was parked on a slope at the entrance of a warehouse opposite Tipper Garage with the engine still running and the handbrake engaged.

According to him, the driver had stepped down from the truck to hand over a waybill to security personnel at the gate of the warehouse.

Ajibade explained that the vehicle reversed onto the expressway after the handbrake disengaged.

He said the incident led to the death of two persons, while nine others sustained injuries.

“Three others were unhurt,” he added.

Ajibade said the corpses had been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary.

He said those injured were also receiving treatment at the same hospital.

He added that personnel of TRACE and the Federal Road Safety Corps handled the rescue operation and cleared the vehicles from the road.

He advised motorists to reduce speed and observe traffic regulations at all times.
