The Lagos State Government has sealed Light House Club in Lekki over repeated violations of environmental laws, particularly on noise pollution.
The enforcement was carried out on Monday by a joint task force comprising officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency.
The action was announced in a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter) by the commissioner for the environment and water resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab.
He said the club was shut down for persistent noise pollution and ignoring official warnings.
According to Wahab, the facility breached the state’s regulations on permissible noise levels, leading to government intervention after earlier notices were disregarded.
He stated that the closure would remain until the club complies fully with required environmental standards.
“This includes installing appropriate soundproofing systems and undergoing verification by LASEPA to confirm that noise emissions fall within the approved limits,” Wahab explained.
He added that the government would no longer tolerate entertainment venues that flout environmental laws.
“Our environmental laws are not negotiable. The right of Lagos residents to enjoy peace and quiet in their communities will always take priority over commercial interests,” Wahab asserted.
