Residents of the Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State have been enveloped by sadness and sorrow after three boys drowned.

The deceased met their end on Tuesday afternoon while swimming in a river near a mining site in Jinkiri village.

The victims were identified as Habibu Mohammed and Abubakar Mohammed, both 16, and 14-year-old Zailani Sule.

They were said to have followed a group of boys to scavenge for mineral deposits near Jinkiri village.

The police in the northeast state confirmed the tragic incident on Wednesday. The state Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condoles with the family of the victims and stressed the need for increased safety awareness during water activities.

“In light of this heartbreaking situation, the Nigeria Police Force Bauchi State Command under the able leadership of the Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu expresses its deepest condolences to the families affected and underscores the critical need for heightened safety awareness during water activities, especially during inclement weather,” he added
