  • Ibadan North by-election sees poor voter turnout in several wards, attributed to low sensitization and political apathy among residents

  • Security presence is strong with police and army deployed; no violence reported, and voting process remains smooth and orderly

The by-election for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, which is being held across twelve electoral wards, has witnessed low voter turnout in several areas.

Reports indicate that turnout has been particularly poor in Old and New Bodija Estates, as well as some polling units in Mokola and Agbowo. Although election officials arrived on time at the polling units, voter participation remained discouraging.

Some officials, who spoke anonymously, attributed the situation to limited voter sensitisation and a general sense of apathy among the electorate.

At Ward 10, Unit 27 in Ibadan North Local Government, a voter, Oluwaseun Omisakin, described the low turnout as a reflection of growing discontent with the current political atmosphere. She, however, commended INEC ad-hoc staff for ensuring a smooth and seamless voting process.

Security has also been visibly tight, with combined teams of the police, Army, and other security agencies strategically deployed across the affected areas. Compliance with the restriction on vehicular movement, as directed by Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna, was strictly observed.

As of the time of this report, no incidents of violence had been recorded in the 12 wards where the election is ongoing.
