- Police investigations established the officers had been deployed for security duty but engaged in unprofessional behaviour.

The Kano state police command has begun disciplinary action against some officers filmed assisting a politician during a cash-sharing event.
A viral video had shown a politician in a red cap and flowing attire distributing money to youths in Kano.
In the footage, five uniformed policemen were seen helping to organise the crowd into a queue for the handouts.
The command, in a statement on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, said the incident happened on July 10.
He explained that the money-sharing took place shortly after a ceremony at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House.
Haruna-Kiyawa stressed that the video had nothing to do with the rerun and by-elections held in the state on August 16.
According to him, investigations showed the officers were posted to provide security at the event but acted in an “unprofessional” manner.
“The command confirms the incident occurred after a ceremony at the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House on Thursday, 10 July 2025, and is unrelated to the rerun and by-elections held on 16 August 2025,” the statement read.
He said appropriate disciplinary steps were already underway to deal with the erring officers.
“The command assures the public that disciplinary actions are being taken to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force,” he added.
Haruna-Kiyawa further noted that the police remain committed to strict discipline and ethical standards while working to retain public confidence.
