At least fifty people have been killed by bandits in waves of coordinated attacks in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Bandits had attacked a mosque in Unguwan Mantau Community on Tuesday morning and gunned down 13 worshippers who had gathered to observe the morning prayers.

However, the death toll from the deadly mosque attack has now risen to thirty, according to one Hon. Aminu Ibrahim.

Ibrahim is the lawmaker representing Malumfashi Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly.

He disclosed that aside from the thirty slain worshippers, another twenty were burnt alive in separate incidents across Malumfashi Local Government Area.

A visibly troubled Ibrahim told other lawmakers during plenary that the attacks occurred in Gidan Adamu Mantau, Unguwar Yar Mai Dabo, and Makera villages in Karfi Ward, as well as the Burdigau community in Yaba Ward. According to him, residents now live in constant fear.

He explained that villagers had earlier reported suspicious movements of armed men around Burdigau between 6 and 7 p.m. on Monday, but soldiers arrived late and later withdrew without securing the area. By dawn Tuesday, the bandits struck.

The lawmaker lamented, “The situation has become unbearable. Our people can no longer live in their villages because of these relentless attacks.”

He appealed for permanent security bases to be established in Karfi and Yaba wards.

The killings have drawn concern among fellow lawmakers over the rising death toll in Katsina communities despite military presence. Locals describe the situation as a “daily war of survival.”

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, confirmed to journalists that the government had moved to reinforce security and provide relief support
