The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 116 suspects during raids on black spots across Abuja.
The command said the operation was part of efforts to rid the capital city of illicit drugs and related crimes.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, explained that the raids were carried out by operatives of the Anti-Narcotics Section.
She said the coordinated operations, conducted between August 1 and August 20, covered several high-risk areas within the city.
According to her, locations targeted included Asokoro, Trademore, Mpape, Kurudu, Kubwa, Gwarimpa, Jikwoyi, Utako, Life Camp, Zuba and Karshi.
Adeh disclosed that the raids led to the arrest of 116 suspects and the recovery of illicit substances and dried leaves.
She added that some of the exhibits included hard drugs and items suspected to be cannabis.
The police spokesperson noted that 89 of the suspects were released after screening, while the rest were charged to court.
She said the charges ranged from public nuisance to possession of hard drugs and related offences.
The commissioner of police, Ajao Adewale, commended the officers for their efforts in maintaining law and order in the FCT.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring a safe and drug-free environment in the nation’s capital.
Adewale further urged residents to shun drug abuse and support security agencies in ongoing crime-fighting operations.
