Operatives of the Ilasan Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested five suspected members of a car-snatching gang.
The suspects were picked up alongside an alleged receiver of a stolen vehicle said to have been dismantled in Ibadan.
The Command said the incident began on August 1, when a taxi driver reported being dispossessed of his vehicle at gunpoint.
According to the report, three men had booked his services along Platinum Way, Jakande, Lekki, before attacking him.
One of the suspects allegedly brought out a locally fabricated pistol, forced the driver out of the Toyota Corolla, and fled.
Police operatives later identified the suspects as Favour Sunday, Ikot Moses, Dickson Ighobue Harrison, Joshua Adedamola and Daniel Jonathan.
Investigations also revealed that the stolen car was sold to one Wasiu Arinola for N500,000.
Arinola reportedly dismantled the vehicle and sold its parts before he was eventually tracked down and apprehended.
The police said efforts were underway to recover the pistol used in the robbery and trace other vehicles linked to the gang.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the operatives for their swift response and assured residents of safety.
He urged members of the public to provide timely information to assist the police in combating criminal activities across the state.
