Operatives of the Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS) of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos have arrested four suspected cult members over alleged murder in Sagamu, Ogun State.

According to NewTelegraph, the suspects include Olushola Adedeji, Olusegun Olalekan a.k.a Musket, Azeez a.k.a Anene and Abolore a.k.a A.B.

They were said to have been arrested with some arms and ammunition and are currently in custody assisting in police investigation.

New Telegraph gathered that the suspected cultists were rounded up at their hideout in Sagamu on Thursday, last week, for allegedly shooting to death a resident popularly known as Arsenal-Nice in the town.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged at the ZIS, Obada Oko, Abeokuta that the suspects invaded the residence of the victim and murdered him.

The complainant, who reportedly claimed that they were on the payroll of a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, equally alleged that the suspects were among cultists terrorizing Sagamu and its environs.

The suspects fingered the Majority Leader of the House and member representing Sagamu 1 State Constituency, Adeyinka Mafe, as their sponsor.

The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos State, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said investigation was ongoing in the case.

Badmus, however, stated that the suspects confessed to be working for one politician in the state.

“The case is under investigation. They (suspects) said they are working for one politician but we are investigating it. We won’t expose it until we get to the last stage. But the cogent thing is that they said they are working for a politician which we are still trying to verify,” she said.

But when contacted yesterday, Mafe simply said in a text message that the allegation was “beer parlour gist.”

The lawmaker, however, called for the prosecution of the suspects, noting that he will be glad to have the opportunity to defend himself.

“Well, I don’t react to beer parlour gist. More so, I rather they are charged to the court of competent jurisdiction so I have my day in court as a lawyer to defend myself. Thanks,” he stated in his SMS.
