The American couple were high school sweethearts after their first date aged 14 and 17 respectively. The Sloups got married and enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. It seems the couple had an affinity for the numbers 6 and 3. After the 63 years together, both Helen and Rudy passed away exactly 36 hours apart.
Western Journal reported that Helen passed away on April 11, as a result of heart disease, aged 81. There is a common belief that elderly couples that have been married for many years tend to pass on within a short space of time of each other.
