A 33-year-old man has been apprehended by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly sodomising 32 students of an almajiri school situated in the Kontagora Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, Abdullahi Abubakar has been alleged of sexually assaulting the students of an almajiri school in Sabon-Gari Area of Kontagora.

Abdullahi who is one of the guardians of the students, allegedly pulled down their trousers and had sex with them as they slept. This ugly incident has been going on for a while.

The incident was reported to the police on July 22, 2019, by a Kontagora Hisba (Sharia police) Commander, Murtala Abdullahi. Following Murtala’s report, the suspect was trailed and apprehended by a team of policemen attached to the ‘A’ Division, Kontagora.

Abdullahi Abubakar reportedly confessed during interrogation to having sodomized at least 32 students. He blamed his actions on the devil.

“I cannot even explain how I started having sexual intercourse with these students; honestly, it is the work of the devil,” Abdullahi said while speaking to Northern City News.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident.

Abubakar said, “The command will get to the root of this matter and fish out those hiding in almajiri schools to commit this heinous crime. In no distance time, the long arm of the law will catch up with them and we will deal with them ruthlessly.

“Niger State is a danger zone for the perpetrators of such crimes; we will not leave them unchallenged; we must bring them to book.”

He said the matter will be charged to court as soon as investigation was completed.
