Facebook unveils new logo

Facebook has revealed a new logo, as it attempts to shift focus towards Instagram and WhatsApp.

The new branding features the name of the company written in all capitals, and borrows the distinctive colours of its other apps.

The logo will be separate from the one shown inside the Facebook app and on the website. Instead, it is intended to distinguish the parent company from all of those apps, and stress that Facebook owns a variety of different products.

Users may not know that some apps – such as Instagram or cryptocurrency platform Calibra – are actually made by Facebook, the company suggested, and the new branding should help change that.

“People should know which companies make the products they use. Our main services include the Facebook app, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, Workplace, Portal and Calibra,” wrote Antonio Lucio, chief marketing officer, in a blog post.

“These apps and technologies have shared infrastructure for years and the teams behind them frequently work together.”

Facebook continues to face sustained criticism over a variety of corporate decisions, including the decision to put controversial website Breitbart in its “high quality” news section and its policy on political ads.
