Opeyemi Sowore, the wife of pro-democracy activist, Omoyele Sowore, says the children of the Sowores miss their father.

Opeyemi said this while addressing journalists in the United States of America.

“They miss their father dearly,” Opeyemi said.

Sowore, alongside Olawale Bakare, is being prosecuted by the Nigerian government for insulting President Muhammadu Buhari, money laundering and treasonable felony.

The pro-democracy activist was arrested on August 3 in Lagos and has remained in the custody of the Department of State Services.

During his ongoing trial, Femi Falana, his counsel, said he would be released today, having perfected his bail conditions. Nigerians and Sowore’s neighbours in the US have continued to ask for his immediate release.

Mrs. Sowore thanked everyone for showing the family immense support while hoping that her husband would return to New Jersey safely.

“We continue to pray for his safe return home to us in New Jersey,” she said.

Meanwhile, Justice Ojukwu earlier today granted Sowore and co- defendant, Bakare bail. The order was given in a ruling on the application for bail variation by the duo charged with treasonable felony among others. She waived the earlier requirement, stating that Sowore should deposit N50m as security and also reduced the amount attached to Bakare’s bail.

Upon  commencement of trial on Wednesday, Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), told the Federal High Court in Abuja that the defendants would be freed later on Wednesday.

He said, “I have already explained to the learned prosecuting counsel that we are encumbered by the refusal of the State Security Service to allow us to prepare for the defence of the defendants.

“I had already asked my learned counsel for the prosecution, that we are confident that the defendants will be freed today (Wednesday) from the custody of the SSS having met the bail conditions imposed on them by this honourable court.

“Once they are liberated from the custody of the SSS, we will be in a position to take full instruction from them.”
