Sanwo-Olu names Onikan Stadium after late Mobolaji Johnson

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has renamed  the Onikan Stadium after late first Military Governor of Lagos State, Brig Gen Mobolaji Olufunsho Johnson, to honour and immortalise the deceased.

The governor said the stadium will henceforth be called Mobolaji Olufunsho Johnson stadium.

Sanwo-Olu announced this Tuesday, at an event tagged: “A day of Tribute” at Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island, as part of activities lined up for the burial arrangements for the late military Governor being sponsored by the state government.

While Paying glowing tributes to the late Mr Johnson, a brigadier-general, Mr Sanwo-Olu described him as a man who saw the future and worked to achieve the Lagos of our dreams.

The governor and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, led members of the State’s Executive Council and high-profile dignitaries to the event held to honour the life and times of the deceased.

The late Mr Johnson passed away in his Ilupeju country home on October 30, at the age of 83.

Mr Sanwo-Olu said the late Mr Johnson’s selflessness in service and excellent achievements had been a source of inspiration to successive administrations in Lagos.

Mr Sanwo-Olu said the late military governor’s personality symbolised integrity, humility, fairness and justice.

“In whatever role we knew him, the first and longest-serving military administrator of Lagos State stood out as a special person for his leadership and charismatic personality,” the governor said.
