The migrant e-registration exercise would commence in all designated commands of the Nigeria Immigration Service ( NIS) from July 1, 2020.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of Immigration, Sunday James stating that it was due to the gradual ease of the COVID-19 lockdown across the country by the Federal Government.

The Comptroller -General of the Service, Muhammad Babandede, however directed officials of the commands to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines stipulated by the National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC).

It was gathered over 30, 000 migrants have so far registered with the NIS since the exercise commenced.

The statement added that the commands must clean the registration centres before migrants are granted access and check the temperature of migrants.

James added that they should provide sanitisers and soaps for washing hands as well.

He said the migrants were expected to wear face masks and observe physical distancing.

“The Comptroller- General of Nigeria Immigration Service expects maximum compliance from both the operatives at the frontline and the migrants as a safety and precautionary measure to curb the spread of the COVID -19 and safeguard lives, ” he asserted.
