As Nigeria continues its fight against COVID-19, 239 new cases of the deadly virus have been recorded in 14 states and the federal capital territory on Tuesday, September 1 with a total of 54,247 confirmed cases.

This was revealed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) via its official Twitter page.

According to the  states breakdown of COVID-19, Plateau maintained its lead on the list of states with new infections with 116 positive samples, followed by FCT with 33 and Lagos with 19, while Bauchi recorded the least figure with one positive case.

According to NCDC, 372 people were discharged within the past 24 hours and a total of 42,010 people have now recovered from COVID-19 in the country.

10 COVID-19 patients died on Tuesday which reflected a significant increase compared to the daily count of dead victims recorded over the past two weeks. The last time Nigeria recorded a similar figure on the high side was on August 13 when 10 people were confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications.

It was learnt that COVID-19 deaths in Nigeria dropped significantly between August 14 and August 31 with Nigeria recording a 48-hour break of zero death during the period.

NCDC further disclosed in its September 1 update that the figure of deaths has now increased from 1,013 to 1,023.
