A self-styled traditional ruler of Otokutu, Ughievwem Kingdom, in the Ugheli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Rueben Ogode, has been arraigned for allegedly parading himself as a monarch.

The police had two weeks ago arraigned a self-acclaimed monarch of the Kerebiri Mein Kingdom in the Bomadi Local Government Area of the state, Mr Godspower Oporomo, for parading himself as a king.

Ogode was arraigned before Chief Magistrates’ Court 1, Otu Jeremi for parading himself as a traditional ruler and conferring chieftaincy titles on some members of the community.

The defendant was accused of carrying out duties of a traditional ruler without the authorisation of the state government.

He was also accused of causing misdemeanour capable of causing a breach of peace in the area.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Gloria Etanabene, said on Thursday, “The defendant has pleaded not guilty to the six counts, but it is an offence that attracts bail, which is granted in the sum of N1m with a surety, who must be a property owner.”

The defendant was alleged to have declared himself the king of Otokutu under the Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom, Dr Matthew Egbi.

However, the case was adjourned till September 22, 2020, for further hearing.
