Court summons Odua’s GMD, others for contempt

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has summoned the Group Managing Director of the Odua Investment Company Limited, Mr Adewale Raji, and two other officials of the company over alleged contempt of court.

The summons was contained in the order of the court signed by Justice J. Peters of the Ibadan Division of the National Industrial Court.

The development was sequel to an action filed by Abiodun Adedeji, a management staff of the company, against the GMD, bordering on alleged oppression, discrimination and misrepresentation of facts to the board of the company.

It was gathered that trouble started in September when two bailiffs of the court were attacked while trying to serve court papers on the company.

After a repeated visit to the company, the bailiffs were said to have been directed to drop the court processes at the security post.

Aftermath, it was learnt that the GMD, officials of the company and their counsel refused to appear in court when the case was mentioned.

The presiding judge thereafter ordered the GMD, the company secretary and the head of human resources to appear in person on Wednesday for alleged contempt of court.

The court’s summons was reportedly pasted on the company premises on Thursday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Odua Investment, Victor Ayetoro, said the company’s lawyer had been informed to approach the court on the issue.
