Ekiti-born student, Sunday Asefon emerges NANS president

A native of Ekiti state, Sunday Asefon has been elected as the president of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) amid chaos and violence that characterised its convention at the old parade ground, Abuja on Thursday.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that Asefon, a post-graduate student of Ekiti State University who also doubles as a civil servant polled 155 votes to defeat his closest rival, Olushola Oladoja who polled 100 votes.

Asefon whose age is controversial as at the time of filing this report replaces Bamidele Akpan.

Recall that election which started on Thursday was disrupted by violence.

According to report, atleast 20 members of the association who gathered at the old parade ground in Abuja for the convention, sustained wounds from gunshots and machete.

Reports also disclosed that the thugs loyal to a factional coordinator of the association in Zone D (Southwest) began attacking delegates.
