When social media meets business, even the smallest critique can turn into a viral feud. This was exactly what happened on February 4 2026, when popular Nigerian entertainer Yhemolee clashed online with social media personality and critic Opeyemi Famakin over Yhemolee’s wife’s perfume brand. The exchange has since dominated Instagram timelines and sparked debates about criticism, loyalty, and online etiquette.

The Review That Started It All

Opeyemi Famakin

Opeyemi Famakin, known for his bold and sometimes flamboyant commentary on lifestyle and business matters, posted a review of Yhemolee’s wife’s perfume on Instagram. While giving the fragrance a 7.5 out of 10 rating, Famakin praised Yhemolee personally but did not hold back on criticizing the product. He said:

“I love Yhemolee but I think they need to work on the text on the perfume…it’s peeling. Sack the people that imprinted it for you. Tell them they’re spoiling your business.” He also described the perfume as “pricy,” signaling that he felt the cost might not match the packaging quality.

While some saw this as constructive criticism, the public nature of the review and the sharpness of his comments drew immediate attention and sparked conversations online.

Yhemolee Fires Back

Yhemolee responded through his Instagram stories, defending his wife’s brand with a mix of humour, frustration, and fiery passion. He called out what he considered demeaning statements about the perfume while pointing out the success of the brand. He fumed:

“Some of una life don spoil for this internet. You can go ahead and do your critic whatever. Which one be and I love Yhemolee oh but proceeds to say demeaning statements about the brand. So if you no love Yhemolee nko? You for pour shit untop the product na. Fat fooll!!”

He continued to highlight the commercial success of the perfume, noting that the particular fragrance Famakinwa criticized had sold over 1,000 bottles and had become the best-seller in the collection. He questioned why Famakinwa had given the critique after initially requesting to be paid ₦6 million by the marketing team for a video review:

“Her marketing team reached out to you when she launched for a video review, you charged 6m. So if dem actually don pay you the 6m na wetin for comot for your mouth be this?? She launched and when you saw that she was doing well, guess who decided to finally buy a bottle and proceeds to on ring light…”

Yhemolee’s response was as much about defending his wife as it was about calling out online critics who misrepresent others for attention.

Social Media Reaction

The feud quickly went viral on Instagram, with fans and followers weighing in on both sides. Supporters of Yhemolee applauded his defense of his wife and highlighted the perfume’s sales record. Some agreed with Famakinwa’s critique, arguing that packaging flaws should be addressed, but many felt the timing and tone of the post made it appear unnecessarily harsh.

The incident sparked a larger conversation about social media responsibility, especially when influencers and critics comment publicly on small businesses. Many users noted that Famakinwa’s review, while technically accurate about the peeling text, could have been delivered privately rather than posted publicly after Yhemolee’s wife had achieved early success with the fragrance.

Lessons From the Clash

Beyond the Instagram drama, the clash highlights the delicate balance between honest reviews and public perception. Yhemolee’s defense underscores how quickly criticism can escalate when it touches on personal brands, family businesses, or the hard work of loved ones. At the same time, Famakin’s approach reminds influencers that visibility comes with responsibility, because timing and tone are as important as accuracy.
