President Bola Tinubu approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, which resulted in changes to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) with the departure of Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had earlier nominated Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who was transferred to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
The development was contained in a statement released on Tuesday, April 21 by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
According to the statement, Edun has been asked to transfer over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Oyedele is fondly called the ‘tax man’. However, there are some personal and professional details about the ‘tax man’ which are unknown to the people.
Between 1999 and 2001, Taiwo Oyedele attended Yaba College of Technology to study Accountancy and Finance.
In 2012, he completed the Organizational Leadership Executive Program at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
He studied Organizational Leadership at Yale School of Management in 2014.
He has also attended Executive, Policy, and Leadership programs at Harvard Kennedy School and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
After finishing his NYSC training in March 2002, he joined PwC as an Associate that same year. He advanced to the positions of Senior Associate, Assistant Manager, Manager, and Senior Manager. In 2009, he was elevated to Fiscal Policy Partner and West Africa Tax Leader.
In February 2021, he was appointed Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. Oyedele leads PwC’s Tax and Legal Services Practice in more than 30 African nations and serves on the firm’s Africa Leadership Team.
He spent 22 years at PwC working in both the private and governmental sectors, advising governments and contributing to regional tax harmonization efforts, especially under ECOWAS frameworks.
His wide experience spans finance, consulting, project management, leadership development, strategy, and tax advisory. Oyedele has been a member of the Nigerian Taxation Standards Board for eight years and the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee for the past six.
Since 2020, Oyedele has served as the Fiscal Policy & Planning Commission’s Thematic Lead, as well as the Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group’s West Africa Debt Management Roundtable.
He also serves as Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria’s (ICAN) Taxation & Fiscal Policy Faculty Board, as well as a member of the Nigerian Taxation Standards Board and the Ministerial Committee on the Implementation of Nigeria’s National Tax Policy.
Oyedele was Chairman of the West Africa Debt Management Roundtable for two years before moving on to lead the Roundtable on Debt Restructuring and Social Financing in the ECOWAS Region: Providing a Path to Fiscal Sustainability. For more than a year, he served as both Research Director and Fiscal Policy Commissioner.
He is a member of the Global Tax Forum and sat on the ACCA’s Global Governing Council from 2011 to 2020.
Oyedele founded the Impact Africa Foundation and has served as its President since June 2015. The organization promotes the education of underprivileged children in society through financial help, mentoring, and campaigning.
As an educator, Oyedele is a guest lecturer at Lagos Business School and an Associate Professor at Babcock University Business School.
He was also the Dean of the Faculty of Direct Taxation at the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) from 2010 to 2017, and he has been the Chairman of ICAN’s Taxation and Fiscal Policy Board since 2018.
In August 2023, President Tinubu appointed Oyedele to chair the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
Under his chairmanship, the committee advocated far-reaching reforms, including the establishment of a unified Nigeria Revenue Service to simplify several tax agencies. By May 2025, the Senate had passed four tax reform legislation based on recommendations.
In March 2026, he was nominated by President Bola Tinubu and confirmed by the Senate on March 12th to serve as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite.
Oyedele is married and a dedicated parent of two children.
