A Mama Deola Wedding Story premiere: Kola & Imisi share kiss, Toyin Abraham gets touchy-feely, Mo Bimpe & Jide Awobona ‘gossip’, other catchy moments

The wedding theme of the premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story was always going to make it different from the usual movie red carpet. But when Nollywood stars and popular personalities gathered in Lagos on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the night produced more than carefully planned fashion moments.

From familiar faces arriving in wedding-inspired outfits to unexpected interactions that quickly became viral moments online, the premiere had several moments that competed for attention.

The event came a day before the film’s official streaming release on Kava, giving Folagade Banks’ much-loved Mama Deola character a bigger stage after years of appearing in his comedy skits. The film is also Kava’s first original production, with Femi Adebayo directing and Omowunmi Dada and Rotimi Salami playing the central wedding couple.

But away from the main attraction, there were several things happening on the night that deserved a closer look.

Kola and Imisi Share A Kiss

Kola and Imisi on red carpet

One of the moments that quickly caught attention had little to do with the movie itself. Former Big Brother Naija housemates Kola and Imisi arrived at the premiere together on Wednesday, September 2, holding hands as they made their way onto the red carpet.

They posed together before sharing a brief kiss, a moment that was captured on video and quickly circulated on social media.

Imisi wore a flowing white gown, while Kola stood beside her in a green suit. Their choice of outfits also fitted neatly into the wedding theme of the evening.

The kiss was bound to attract attention because of the history of their friendship. The pair became close during the 10th season of BBNaija, with their interactions attracting interest from viewers during the show.

Imisi, whose real name is Opeyemi Ayanwale, went on to win the reality show when its 10th season ended in October 2025. Nearly a year later, she and Kola were once again giving fans something to talk about, this time on a movie premiere red carpet. See clip of the moment below:

Mo Bimpe, Lateef and Jide Awobona’s Table Moment

Another moment happened away from the main red carpet poses. Mo Bimpe attended the premiere with her husband, actor Lateef Adedimeji, while Jide Awobona was also around them when they got to their table.

Mo eventually found herself seated between the two actors. A video from the event showed her leaning towards Jide while showing him something on her phone. Whatever they were looking at appeared to amuse both of them as they smiled and reacted to it.

Lateef, who was seated beside his wife, watched on. It was a small moment, but the kind that becomes interesting when caught on camera at a packed celebrity event.

The trio had already embraced the spirit of the evening through their wedding-inspired fashion choices. In fact, the wedding theme was one of the biggest talking points from the premiere, with several stars treating the red carpet almost like an actual bridal runway. See clip below:

Toyin Abraham Gets Touchy-Feely With Damilola Oni

Toyin Abraham & Damilola Oni

Toyin Abraham and Damilola Oni provided one of the more playful exchanges of the night. Toyin, dressed in a white Muslim outfit with a bridal feel, spotted Damilola in her own eye-catching white gown and decided to turn the moment into a joke.

The actress playfully asked Damilola if she could touch her breasts, putting a price of ₦5,000 on each touch.

Damilola was not having it for that amount. Her response was a much bigger figure of ₦5 million. Toyin immediately reacted to the price, joking that the amount was too much. She added that with ₦5 million, she could buy land in Ogbomosho, the hometown of her husband, actor Kolawole Ajeyemi.

The exchange went viral because of how touchy-feely and playful Toyin Abraham can get and how Damilola also flowed with it. See clip:

Damilola’s own outfit had already attracted attention before the exchange. Her white gown was tightly fitted around the waist and drew attention to her busty bosom, making her one of the guests who stood out under the evening’s bridal-inspired dress code.

The Red Carpet Became A Bridal Runway

The organisers gave guests a clear fashion brief: “White Wedding Couture” and the elebrities did not exactly need much convincing.

Instead of the usual mix of glamorous evening gowns, suits and experimental red-carpet looks, the premiere was filled with bridal gowns, veils, trains, bouquets and other details associated with a Nigerian white wedding.

There was even a ₦1 million prize for the best-dressed guest, adding another reason for attendees to take the assignment seriously.

Conclusion

Behind all the fashion and viral moments was a major step for Folagade Banks.
A Mama Deola Wedding Story takes the character that made Banks popular through his comedy skits and expands her world into a feature film. The story centres on a wedding and the chaos that comes with bringing two families together, with Omowunmi Dada and Rotimi Salami playing Demilola and Femi, the central couple.

The project also represents a new chapter for Banks as a filmmaker. He serves as producer and executive producer, while veteran filmmaker Femi Adebayo directs the movie.

The scale of the project had already generated attention before the premiere. In August, Banks released the official trailer and reminded audiences that the film would stream exclusively on Kava from September 3. Earlier, reports about the production highlighted a large wedding sequence involving more than 600 cast members and extras and about 20 hours of filming.

The September 2 premiere therefore served as the final big celebration before audiences got to see the finished story for themselves.
