Funke Akindele, Kwam 1, late Ogogo, others spark buzz as Femi Adebayo unveils Jagun Jagun 2 cast

There are some movie announcements that come with a little more noise than others. For Femi Adebayo, the latest reveal has given fans several reasons to look twice.

Femi Adebayo raises anticipation with Jagun Jagun 2 cast reveal

Femi Adebayo

Femi Adebayo has unveiled a long list of stars who will feature in the much-anticipated sequel to his 2023 epic movie, Jagun Jagun.

The actor and filmmaker shared the cast reveal on social media on Friday, October 16, giving fans a closer look at some of the familiar and unexpected faces attached to Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors.

The reveal comes just days after Adebayo officially announced that the sequel will premiere exclusively on Netflix on December 4, 2026.

Rather than simply bringing back the faces associated with the first film, the new reveal points to a much bigger ensemble, with established actors, Yoruba film veterans, musicians, comedians and popular content creators all appearing in the video.

Among the names that immediately caught attention were Funke Akindele, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, and the late Taiwo Hassan, aka Ogogo.

And that is only a small part of the cast.

Funke Akindele joins the epic world

Funke Akindele

One of the biggest talking points from the reveal is the appearance of Funke Akindele. The award-winning actress and filmmaker is one of the most recognisable names in contemporary Nigerian entertainment, making her presence in Jagun Jagun 2 an interesting addition to an already large cast.

Funke Akindele has only featured in a few selected movies asides from her own production. Her appearance also adds another major mainstream name to a production that has continued to build its identity around Yoruba culture, traditional settings and epic storytelling.

Her name alone is enough to make many viewers curious about the character she will play and how her story will fit into the world created by Adebayo. For now, however, the filmmaker has kept details of individual characters under wraps.

Kwam 1’s appearance gets attention

Kwam 1

Another name that stood out in the reveal was veteran Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as Kwam 1.

His appearance adds another layer to the already unusual mix of talent assembled for the sequel because he rarely ever features as an actor in movies.

The cast reveal therefore appears to be going beyond the usual Nollywood lineup.

Late Ogogo’s appearance adds an emotional layer

Ogogo

Perhaps one of the most striking moments for viewers is the appearance of late actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

Hassan died in August 2026, with his death and burial drawing tributes from colleagues across the Yoruba film industry. His inclusion in the Jagun Jagun 2 reveal is therefore significant. It also gives the sequel a connection to one of the respected veterans of Yoruba cinema, whose career spanned decades.

Pasuma, Ibrahim Chatta, Odunlade and other familiar faces

Ibrahim Chatta

The reveal also features several established names with strong links to Yoruba-language cinema. Among them are Pasuma, Ibrahim Chatta, Odunlade Adekola, Muyiwa Ademola, Adebayo Salami, Yinka Quadri, Dele Odule, Kunle Afod, Jamiu Azeez, Adeniyi Johnson, Femi Adebayo Salami and Mustapha Sholagbade.

Also featured are Faithia Williams, Bimbo Ademoye, Peju Ogunmola, Bigvai Jokotoye, Baba Tee, Kiki Bakare and Kiitan Bukola.

Several of these names have already appeared in major Yoruba productions, while others bring a different audience to the project.

For a film that already established a large ensemble in its first instalment, the decision to assemble another extensive cast suggests that Adebayo is aiming for an even broader production this time.

The return of familiar Jagun Jagun faces

The sequel also brings back some names connected to the original Jagun Jagun. The first film, released on Netflix on August 10, 2023, followed Gbotija, a young man determined to become a powerful warrior who joins an elite army and comes face-to-face with the feared warlord Ogundiji.

Netflix lists Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji and Odunlade Adekola among the principal stars of the original film, alongside Ibrahim Yekini, Bukunmi Oluwasina, Adebayo Salami, Fathia Balogun, Muyiwa Ademola and Yinka Quadri, among others.

The original became one of the notable Nigerian epic productions on the streaming platform, earning recognition at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
It won Best Indigenous Language Movie (West Africa) and Best Costume Design at the awards.

From Kiekie to Taaooma: content creators enter the mix

The cast reveal also shows how much the Nigerian entertainment industry has changed since the first Jagun Jagun. Popular content creators and comedians including Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie, Taaooma, The Cute Abiola, Erekere, Kemity, Kamo State and Kemi Ikuseedun, popularly known as Kemz Mama are among the names seen in the reveal.

Their presence gives the sequel a mix of traditional Nollywood, modern comedy and social-media entertainment.

Other familiar faces from the digital entertainment space also appear, including Mimmytea, Ozain, and others. It is a broad mix that could make Jagun Jagun 2 appeal to audiences beyond those who followed the first film mainly because of its Yoruba epic roots.

A cast filled with veterans and young stars

Beyond the younger stars and digital creators, Adebayo has also surrounded the production with veteran performers. Names such as Adebayo Salami, Yinka Quadri, Dele Odule and Wale Ojo appear among the faces revealed.

The list also includes other actors such as Amuda Eko, Samuel Ajirebi, Kunle Afod, Olatoun Olanrewaju, Nike Hazmah, Muka Ray, Gabriel Afolayan, Kaffy, Itele, Bidemi Kosoko, Seilat, Pretty Fola, Salami Rotimi, Tobi Makinde, Temitope Aremu and others.

There are also names including Adeyemi Olalekan Michael, known as Erekere, Abiodun Adebanjo, Tobi Makinde, Aliu Gafar, Deji Alaran, Yinka Salau, Bukky Smart, Dr Whiteberry, Ibrahim Bashir, Yomi Olorunlolaiye and others.

The sheer size of the cast makes it clear that Adebayo has assembled a production with plenty of familiar faces.

The sequel has been two years in the making

The cast reveal is coming after a long wait for fans of the first film. On October 13, Adebayo opened up about the effort that went into making the sequel, revealing that the project had taken two years of what he described as “relentless work.” He also admitted that he cried while reflecting on the journey. He wrote:

“I cried… Yes, I did!! Only the Almighty knows the weight of those tears – the sacrifices, the lessons, and everything it took to get here.”

He then announced that the film was finally ready.

“We cooked!! Jagun-Jagun 2 is ready!! Thank you, God,” Adebayo wrote, confirming the December 4 release date and Netflix as the exclusive platform.

From the 2023 original to War of Warriors

The first Jagun Jagun arrived on Netflix in August 2023 and introduced audiences to a world of warriors, kingdoms, ambition, loyalty and power struggles. Produced by Femi Adebayo and directed by Tope Adebayo Salami and Adebayo Tijani, the film became known for its large-scale production, costumes and battle scenes.

In 2024, Adebayo had already spoken about his plans for the sequel, revealing that the appearance of Ibrahim Chatta at the end of the first film was a signal that another story was coming.

He also clarified that the follow-up would be a feature film rather than a series and said at the time that it was being planned as a Netflix original. That plan has now become reality. With the cast now being unveiled, attention will likely shift to the trailer, character details and the story Adebayo has prepared for the return to the Jagun Jagun universe.

Conclusion

For a film that has been kept largely under wraps, Femi Adebayo has chosen an interesting way to build anticipation. The appearance of major names such as Funke Akindele, Ibrahim Chatta, Odunlade Adekola, Faithia Williams, Bimbo Ademoye,  Kwam 1, amongst others and the inclusion of several generations of Yoruba entertainment stars with the emotional presence of late Taiwo Hassan have given the cast reveal its own talking point.

Now, with Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors set to arrive on Netflix on December 4, the bigger question is no longer whether the sequel is coming. It is what Adebayo has cooked up for audiences when the warriors return.
