Imoleayo Adekoya, 33, has told the police in Ogun State that he was under the influence of alcohol when he raped a 27-year-old lady (name withheld) recently at Ipoji, Sagamu.

Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Imoleayo was arrested on Saturday after the victim lodged a report against him at Sakora Divisional Headquarters.

The victim had told the police that while she was coming from the Ipoji area of Sagamu, Imoleayo accosted her and accused her of not greeting him.

Oyeyemi stated that the lady said she apologised to him that it was because she did not know him.

“But surprisingly, the man pounced on her and started beating her and dragged her to the back of his house, where he forcefully tore her clothes and had sex with her, despite her shouting and struggling,” Oyeyemi stated.

The DPO Sakora division, CSP Rowland Dahunsi, having heard from the companion, quickly detailed his detectives to follow the victim and her father to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested with the assistance of people around, it was learnt.

“On interrogation, Imoleayo confessed to the commission of the crime, but claimed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time,” Oyeyemi added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered that the suspect be immediately transferred to state CIID for further investigation and prosecution.
