Customs officers shoot Katsina commissioner’s convoy

Personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service on Tuesday shot at the convoy of the Katsina State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Umar Gwajo-Gwajo.

According to PUNCH,  sources disclosed that the incident occurred in the morning when the commissioner’s convoy was moving from Daura to Mai’adua Local Government Area of the state.

The sources could not disclose whether the commissioner was inside the convoy when the incident happened.

It could also not be ascertained what led to the incident, although smugglers usually plied the road.

A spokesperson for the Nigeria Customs Service in Katsina, Danbaba Isa, who confirmed the incident, said the customs officers involved in the shooting were already with the police.

“Investigation has commenced into the incident,” he added.

WITHIN NIGERIA recall that in August, a customs patrol vehicle chasing rice smugglers reportedly crushed seven persons to death, injured about 20 persons in Jibiya LGA of Katsina State

Governor Aminu Masari had threatened legal action against the NCS if the officers involved in the crash were not brought to book and compensation paid to families of victims.
