No fewer than seven persons on Christmas day died after a luxury bus conveying 63 passengers lost control in Ogun State.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the accident occurred on the Ososa bridge, along Benin-Ore highway at about 12:20 am on Saturday.

The red-coloured Mercedes Benz bus without a registration number reportedly belongs to Izu Chukwu Motors, Onitsha.

The vehicle, which took off from Ojuelegba, Lagos, had 40 male adults, 15 female adults, five male children and three female children aboard as of the time of the incident.

Aside the dead victims, seven other passengers sustained injuries – three men and four women.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident.

Okpe said the remaining 49 persons were rescued unhurt, being 34 men, seven women, five male children and three female children.

“The suspected cause of the lone accident was wrongful overtaking and loss of control.

“The injured victims were rendered first-aid treatment while the deceased bodies were deposited at State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu Ode,” Okpe said.
