No fewer than 19 persons lost their lives in a fatal motor accident that occurred along Damaturu to Potiskum road on Thursday.
Malam Hamisu Mu’azu, secretary of the General Hospital Damagum, said the accident happened near Fune town in Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State.
He stated that three luxury cars were involved in the collision, two of which were transporting guests from Damagum to Maiduguri for a wedding event.
According to him, 19 people died instantly, 12 out of them are members of one family in Damagum.
“While the other one was coming from Damaturu, the other two were said to be heading to Postiskum and they had head-on collision at Fune town. The accident was as a result of over speeding and reckless overtaking by the drivers,” Hamisu said.
He added that only two children survived from the two cars and they were taken to Teaching Hospital Damaturu for treatment.
