Gunmen attack Jigawa community, kill one, kidnap eight-year-old boy

One Gambo Alhassan Maigini, 45, has been killed in an attack on Tarabu village, Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

An eight-year-old boy, Khalifa Alhaji T Daguri, was also kidnapped during the attack.

A family source said the gunmen broke into the house of Daguro on Sunday at about 11:30am and abducted his 36-year-old wife and his eight year-old-son identified as Kalifa.

He said the hoodlums in their number, spent at least 40 minutes exchanging fire with security men but were overpowered.

Police spokesman, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident.

According to him, “Teams of policemen from Area Command Hadejia, Hadejia ‘A’ and ‘B’ Divisions were mobilized to the scene and on sighting the them, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel”

He said one Sadiya Alh T Mohd was rescued unhurt while Kalifa was taken away by the abductors.

Shiisu said police have also succeeded in arresting their driver, one Malam Adamu of Lawandi Marma village after he was shot on his legs by police as a result of the fire exchange.

He said one Gambo Alhassan Magini was also shot and killed by the hoodlums.

The police spokesman also said one vehicle, a Honda CRV with reg no. PBT 900TB, two GSM handsets belonging to the hoodlums were recovered.

He said efforts were on top gear to arrest the fleeing culprits and rescue the other victim unhurt.
