One Hassan Sule of Kuta, Shiroro LGA in Niger state has been sent to prison for using a wrap of cartons he cut into naira denominations to buy clothes worth N44,000.

The 26-year-old man was remanded by a magistrates’ court in Maikunkele, headquarters of Bosso LGA of the North Central state.

The prosecutor, Inspector Bature Sidi, told the court that a boutique owner at Emir Junction, Bosso area of Minna, Samuel Okoro, on September 8, arrested and brought the suspect to the Bosso Police Station for selecting clothes worth N44,000 and deceitfully giving him a wrap of cartons in a nylon bag as money.

City & Crime learnt that the suspect was said to have cut cartons to the size of N1,000 notes and arranged them as a bunch with both sides covered with one N1,000 wrapped in a black nylon which he claimed was a bunch of N1,000,000 and asked the boutique’s owner to keep for him.

The prosecutor said the boutique’s owner who became suspicious, collected the clothes and handed him the nylon to open and thereafter found that it was not a bunch of N1,000 notes as claimed by the suspect.

He also told the court that the suspect had before his apprehension deceitfully collected clothes from the same shop worth N81,000 and refused to pay and that effort to reach him was not successful.

The Magistrate, Murtala Ibrahim, ordered the suspect’s remanded in the Minna Correctional Centre and adjourned to September 28.
