Kidnapped Enugu couple found dead inside forest, bodies mutilated

The bodies of Mr and Mrs Sunday Okonkwo of Ukpata community in Uzo-Uwani LGA, Enugu have been discovered in the forest.

They were said to have been found by Eastern Security Network, ESN operatives deployed in the state to checkmate armed herdsmen activities.

One of the sons had weeks ago, raised the alarm on the uncertain whereabouts of his parents, who were said to have gone to the farm and never returned.

The bodies of the slain couple which were discovered to have certain parts missing, have now being evacuated by the community to yet to be known mortuary.

Recall that Mr. Sunday Okonkwo and his wife were said to have been kidnapped in their farmland on Wednesday, November 16 afternoon in their farm land by alleged kidnappers.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the couple were said to have gone to the farm to harvest cassava when they were abducted by those suspected to be herders.

Our source explained that “Many people were in the farm that day. In the evening when we couldn’t see this couple, we went round the village to know what happened only to discover that they have been kidnapped by those suspected to be herders.”

Asked if that was the first time such was thing was happening in the community, our source stressed that “there has been cases of kidnapping in the community for quite sometime now.”

However, in a telephone chat with the traditional ruler of the community HRH Igwe Martins Ogwudile, the royal father confirmed the incident, saying that one “Mr Geoffrey Okafor came to me saying one husband and wife were abducted by kidnappers. Till this moment, we have not see them but we are making efforts to see that they are released.”

However, when contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer Enugu state command, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe couldn’t pick up his call for confirmation.
