Members of the Zamfara State chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria have taken action by sealing off the state House of Assembly complex.

This move aligns with the nationwide strike currently taking place due to the non-implementation of financial autonomy for the legislature.

The assembly workers blocked access for the legislators at the main entrance of the complex. Speaking to the press in Gusau, Mr. Kabiru Dauran, the state chairman of PASAN, emphasized that their action is part of the ongoing nationwide indefinite strike.

He said, “This strike followed the expiration of the 28-day ultimatum given to the government by the association to implement financial autonomy for the legislature.

“Our autonomy is according to Section 121-(3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

“We are fighting for our rights; therefore, like other states in the country, there will be no legislative activities here in Zamfara,”

According to Dauran, the assembly will remain sealed until the matter is resolved or there are any further directives from the national body of the union.
