  • A fire devastates Gwarzo town market in Kano State, leaving traders with millions in property losses, prompting appeals for assistance
  • The Kano State Fire Service successfully extinguishes the fire, but affected traders, including Dayyabu Lawan Bala, seek government and public support

A devastating fire has ravaged numerous shops in the Gwarzo town market in Kano State, leaving many traders counting their losses in the millions. The fire, which broke out on Monday, has prompted cries and lamentations from affected traders who have suffered significant property damage.

Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service spokesperson, disclosed that the fire began at midnight but was successfully extinguished by Monday morning. Unfortunately, the flames completely consumed dozens of shops, resulting in property losses estimated in the millions of naira. Thankfully, the incident had no reported injuries or loss of life.

Dayyabu Lawan Bala, an affected trader, shared the extent of his losses, revealing that he lost property valued at over N5 million, including his shop. Bala appealed to the government and well-to-do individuals to come to their aid, providing assistance to alleviate their suffering.

Hon Abdulahi Muazu Babangandu, the representative for Gwarzo Federal Constituency, expressed sympathy for the traders and visited the scene, donating N500,000 to support those affected by the tragedy. The fire incident underscores the need for prompt assistance and solidarity to help the affected traders recover from the substantial losses incurred.
