  • Kaduna State was awarded the best-performing state in Primary Health Care in the North West, receiving a $500,000 cash prize
  • Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe attributed the recognition to Governor Uba Sani’s leadership and significant investments in healthcare infrastructure

Kaduna State has been recognized as the best-performing state in Primary Health Care in the North West region, earning an international award and a cash prize of $500,000.

This achievement highlights Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to advancing the state’s healthcare system.

Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, who accepted the award on behalf of the state government, described it as a reflection of Governor Sani’s strategic leadership and significant investments in healthcare.

She emphasized that the recognition is more than just monetary; it also validates the efforts of Kaduna’s dedicated healthcare team.

“The $500,000 prize will further bolster Kaduna State’s healthcare initiatives and improve primary healthcare delivery,” Dr. Balarabe stated.

The award was presented during a gala hosted by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum. Dr. Balarabe was joined by the Commissioner of Health and the Primary Health Care Board Executive Secretary.

The recognition came through the PHC Leadership Challenge, a flagship program launched in 2019 following the Seattle Declaration. The initiative seeks to strengthen governors’ commitment to primary healthcare across Nigeria.

This program, a collaborative effort by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, Aliko Dangote Foundation, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, applauded Kaduna’s strategic investments in public health infrastructure and service delivery.

The award underscores Kaduna’s progress in healthcare reforms and its dedication to providing better services for residents.
