Four passengers, 15 cattle, 20 goats die in Niger State road accident

A fatal road accident in Niger State has reportedly claimed the lives of at least four people.

The auto crash happened along the Agaie-Lapai Road in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State on Monday, February 3, 2025.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, confirmed the incident, saying the accident involved a head-on collision of three trailer trucks.

The agency, in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Hussani, disclosed that two people died instantly, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

He explained that one of the trucks was transporting cattle and goats, adding that the crash was attributed to a reckless attempt to overtake.

In addition to the human lives lost, Hussani stated that the crash also killed 15 cattle and over 20 goats.

The agency also revealed that 13 people were injured and rushed to Agaie General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The statement further stated that NSEMA Agaie desk officers and some volunteers undertook the rescue operations at the scene of the accident.
